Upload your songs, pick a preset, slow them down or speed them up, and AI beat-marks them. AI finds the editpart (the part you cut to: usually the chorus or drop, sometimes something else) and the sound changes smoothly right into it and back after it. You get a .wav for each song with the effects and the beat markers built in.

Before you open the copy

  • Effects, features and plug-ins that don't exist in the older version will be missing or show as offline.
  • Going back one or two versions works best. Big jumps (for example 2026 to 2020) are more likely to have problems.
  • If After Effects says "chunk in file too big" or crashes, the project uses something the older version can't read. Use one of the official methods below instead.
Official methods from Adobe

Save a Copy As an older version

  1. Open the project in the newer After Effects.
  2. Choose File › Save As › Save a Copy As and pick the earlier version.
  3. Open that copy in your older version.

After Effects only offers the version or two just before it, so for bigger jumps you repeat this with each version in between.

Save a Copy as XML

  1. In the newer After Effects, choose File › Save As › Save a Copy as XML. This makes an .aepx file.
  2. Open the .aepx in your older version, fix anything that came through wrong, then save a normal .aep.
